spirit/hiện hữu: new forms on paper explores the presence and spirit embedded in the materiality of handmade paper. The artists in this exhibition reimagine paper as a living medium transforming it into diverse forms including printmaking, artist books, sculpture, textile design, and installation. These interpretations reveal how paper continues to evolve through new contexts and spiritual connections within Vietnam. Exhibition is co-curated by Veronica Y Phạm and Phan Hải Bằng.

Các nghệ sĩ trong triển lãm tái tưởng tượng giấy như một chất liệu sống, biến đổi nó thành nhiều hình thái đa dạng như tranh in, sách nghệ sĩ, điêu khắc, thiết kế dệt, và sắp đặt nghệ thuật. Những diễn giải này cho thấy giấy không ngừng phát triển qua các ngữ cảnh mới và những kết nối tâm linh trong đời sống đương đại tại Việt Nam. Phan Hải Bằng
Founder of Trúc Chỉ paper craft, artist, and senior lecturer at Huế University.
Phan Hải Bằng is a senior lecturer of art and design at College of Arts, Huế University, Vietnam. Studying papermaking from master craftsmen in Vietnam and Thailand, he has been a pursuer of Vietnamese traditional crafts, design, culture and papermaking. Phan developed the project Trúc Chỉ in 2011 with his colleagues, now a celebrated paper art and craft form in Vietnam. Phan was recently awarded the Lebadang Creative Arts Award in Vietnam and has shown his work internationally.
Veronica Y Phạm
Interdisciplinary artist, papermaker, and design lecturer at the University of Vermont.
Veronica Y Phạm received her MFA in Design, Textile, and Material Culture studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and currently teaches art and design at the University of Vermont. The objects she makes are formed through repetition exploring Vietnamese hand papermaking practices and its surviving craft-related histories. She considers materials as living forms through ecological investigations, process, and cultural memory.
